Every operator gets a learning budget of $7,500 a year — refreshed on your work-anniversary, no rollover, no guilt, no PowerPoint required to spend it. We'll say this plainly: it is enough to actually do the thing, not enough to buy a small island. Specifics live in the offer letter, where specifics belong.
What counts: books, courses, conferences, coaches, therapists who are also coaches, retreats, language tutors, a long weekend at a residency where you finally finish the essay. What does not count: "team-building escape rooms," which we have collectively agreed are a war crime against curiosity.
Examples from the wild: one operator did a six-month somatic experiencing certification and proceeded to dismantle our worst meeting cadence inside a quarter. Another spent it all on opera tickets and a season pass to the symphony, and her writing got measurably better. A third bought a real telescope. We're still waiting to see what happens with that one.
How learning translates into ownership: every new pipeline we run is owned by an operator who learned the new thing first. That is not an accident. That is the loop.
